An industrialist of exceptional repute, Mohammed Jameel has only been earning accolade one after another. In a bid to recognize and reward his contributions to MIT, the institute has named him a lifetime member of the institute. It was only recently, that he caught attention of the entire world for his exceptional contribution towards alleviating poverty and he was endowed Knighthood, by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth.
An alumnus of MIT, Mr. Jameel has been closely involved with MIT. He has been supporting several of the institute’s initiatives financially. However, the membership comes to him in recognition of his works in the field of poverty alleviation and creation of employment.
A few decades back, Mr Jameel had made donations to MIT to start Abdul Latif Jameel-Toyota endowed scholarship fund. It was done to recognize the long-standing relationship between the Abdul Latif Jameel Group and Toyota Motor Corporation. This was done with a belief that education can alone bring in development that is sustainable. This programme hence is committed towards extending financial help to students in the region to join MIT and continue higher studies.
The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) was also established by Mr Jameel to further researches that can be helpful in poverty alleviation. In fact, the Lab’s mission is to reduce poverty across the globe. The Abdul Latif Jameel World Water and Food Supply Lab (J-WAFS) was also established by Mr. Jameel at MIT to look into matters of water scarcity and food supply across the globe.
